Project updates and Zine Month 2023

catsithpress.substack.com

February in TTRPG-land is an exciting month with lots of new releases hitting crowdfunding platforms, and this 2023 marks two big milestones for Cat Sìth Press: first time crowdfunding and (on the success of the former) first time bringing a product to print!

The Haunting of Abimond Manor

A lineart illustration shows a house held up by a hand. The house's upper windows are green eyes which look menacingly out at the viewer. Next to the hand, in green, is the title; "The Haunting of Abimond Manor"

Abimond Manor is a formerly great house now rotting with more than just age. An unnatural darkness swallowed the manor almost a hundred years ago, its master, Elina Abimond, and household servants gone overnight, leaving a gloomy pall over the building and its grounds. Locals claim that none who ventured up to the manor since have ever returned home, and in the way of these things the villagers of Wraicdale studiously tried to ignore the dark cloud on the edge of their home.

Until of course three villagers decided to try and prove there was nothing but rumours and made up ghost stories to be scared of. Of course they have not returned, and it is here that a party of brave adventurers is called for.

The Haunting of Abimond Manor is a setting-agnostic, system-neutral adventure for any sword and sorcery games. That means, provided your game of choice allows for magic and monsters and brave adventurers delving into unknown places to explore, that this adventure should slot easily into any ongoing game, using any TTRPG system. It’s suitable as a oneshot or as an adventure along a larger ongoing campaign.

It’s an adventure into a classic haunted house, twisting a few aspects of the typical ghost playbook for a fresh story that will still hit all your spooky ghostly desires. Facing a time-limit to get through the manor and learn its secrets, the players will uncover truths, face the evil force holding the manor, and (with any luck) free Wraicdale from its influence. You can download a free preview of the manor’s ground floor on itch.io.

The adventure was released late last year as an alpha on itch.io, and it’s received 5-star ratings so far. If the funding period is successful then the adventure will receive bespoke art and maps, updated layout, and a re-draft and edit of the text, AND a print run. Follow the Kickstarter to be notified when the project goes live, and back to receive your copy of the final project.

The Kickstarter will fund:

  • Art by Thomas Novosel

  • Maps by Roz Leahy

  • Layout by Micah Anderson

  • Editing by Chris Bissette

  • Printing by Fistful of Ink (no website yet, but you can check out the cool publishing side of their business, Fistful of Crits)

The Haunting of Abimond Manor will be a 24-page, A5 zine. I’m incredibly proud of this ghostly, spooky, intriguing adventure, and I very much hope to be able to realise its final form.

Projects I’m excited for

Zine Month always showcases some of the best projects TTRPGs have to offer, and I’ve already been well and truly sucked into the hype. Here’s what I’m looking forward to, and I’ll hope you’ll check them out:

  • Tangled Blessings by Cassi Mothwin

  • Sanctuary & Sentinel by Megan Cross

  • Earth to Jupiter by Pidj Sorensen

  • Constellation Volume 1 by Hit Point Press

And lastly, while not a zine project, the Solo But Not Alone bundle is back for the third year, offering a huge selection of solo games to raise funds for Jasper’s Game day. Pick up the bundle on itch.io.

See you next time~
